For now this is under construction but we will be adding frequently asked questions and our replies as time affords.
- Are your puppies AKC Registered? Our parents and the litters they produce are AKC Registered. OwyheeStar Weimaraner puppys comes with registration paperwork. In order for them to be registered you must file the paperwork and pay a fee. It should be noted, however, we as a general rule sell all our puppies a Limited AKC Registration without breeding rights (including a spay/neuter agreement).
- How much are your puppies? Our most common puppy price is $900–females and males in the same litter are the priced the same. Some litters, depending upon various factors, are priced a bit higher. Our price includes our guarantee, on-going support, and things you cannot put a price-tag on.
- Where are you located? We are located in far Eastern Oregon near the Idaho Border.
- Do you ship your puppies? On occasion we do ship a puppy. We do not ship Internationally. Nor do we ship anywhere we feel is going to put the puppy at risk. Another words, we cannot ship south when the temperatures are too warm even if there is a direct flight. Many people actually fly into Boise, Idaho and carry the puppy on the airplane. If you are exploring these options please let us know.
- Does the price of your puppy include the cost of shipping? No, additional delivery or pick up expenses are the buyer’s responsibility.
- Do you show your Weimaraners? We are not actively involved in showing our Weimaraners. Some of our Weimaraners are from show lineages but the vast majority are from hunt lineages. Our focus, however, is health and temperament first. That doesn’t mean that conformation is not important. In fact, we care very much about the structure as well as looks. In addition, the VHDF has a conformation component to the hunt test (Click Here to read more )
- I am not a hunter. Do you have a non-hunting Weimaraner? More than 50% of our Weimaraner pups are placed in non-hunting homes. Another 10-20% are casual hunters. Although the percentage of serious hunters moving to the Weimaraner is steadily increasing the vast majority are placed with casual or non-hunting families. We have a process by which we can determine the most bird-driven pups and make every effort to place those pups with our hunters. Other pups are then placed accordingly with families that fit.
- Do your pups have OFA certified hips? First there is a lot of mis-information about hip ratings and what they mean. Puppies do not come with OFA hip ratings. To get OFA ratings on your Weimaraner hips you must have a Weim that is at least 6 months old to get a preliminary rating. Normally, parents should get a hip rating or check of some sort before they are mated. We have used both PennHIP and OFA. Sometimes we have done both on the same Weimaraner. The vast majority of our Weimaraners have OFA good or excellent hip ratings or an average or above PennHIP rating.
- How do you pronounce OwyheeStar? Oh – Y – He – Star
- Can I visit OwyheeStar? Although we do accommodate visitors there are also times when we are not able to accommodate visitors. We have a few requirements prior to granting a visit. There is a special link that answers many questions about visits. If you are desiring to visit OwyheeStar please check out this link (click here) and write us after you read about visiting OwyheeStar. Thank You!
- Are both parents onsite? For the most part over the last 12 years we could say yes. On two occasions we used a borrowed Stud that we returned to the owner. We do not foresee doing this again but it could at some point in time happen. In some cases we have grandparents onsite.
